Farewell to an Old Friend - Beloved Jesus "Chu Pampero" Muñoz, a Friend and VW Icon passes away

Farewell message by Luis Mariano Muñoz – Volkyland.com Editor
VW fans and fellow drag racers are in mourning due to the passing away of Jesus “Chu Pampero” Muñoz, known to many not only for his expert hand and experience in VW racing engines, but also for his affiliation with the “Chimpance Racing” of the mid and late seventies. For anybody that knew him well, he will be missed for his usual cheerfulness, friendly and always helpful ways.
Pampero formed a highly competitive team with Jimmy Bou, campaigning the, ex Darrell Vitonne Fiat Spyder bodied VW at local, national and international events. Under the coordination of Chu Pampero, the team earned several Wallys, racing the NHRA circuit. The death of Pampero last Sunday June 6th. seals a chapter of the Puerto Rico Motorsports history book, but his achievements, his experience and jovial personality will never be forgotten.
It was only weeks ago, during the celebration of the Flower Power 2010 event at the Plaza Las Americas shopping center, that VW fans had the opportunity to share with Chu, as part of the Diego Febles special night. At that time, Pampero was reunited with Diego Febles, Hot VW’s Dean Kirsten, the Schley brothers, and most of the local VW racers.

Next Wednesday June 16 at 7:00pm, prior to the special homage that will take place for Millo Martinez at Plaza Las Americas, a moment of silence will observed and a small recount of Jesus Muñoz life will be read. Everyone is invited to join in the ceremony.
