About Us

Mission

Prime consideration of the project is to have the collection growing continuously, adding historically significant vehicles and memorabilia. The Museum sees it as a responsibility to educate and inform the automotive fan with information on the Volkswagen products of the past, the present and the future.

It is Dr. Norman's dream to display all relevant information, including brochures, catalogs, books, newsletter, photography and video presentations on the VW brand.

An important mission to be accomplished by the Museum is to create and educational program aimed at the youth of Puerto Rico and other countries, by which schools and youth organization can attend and visit the museum receiving guided tours and being exposed to the technology of the past, the present and the new "green vehicles" of the future. A special fund will guarantee free programs for the public school system, as well as registered bona-fide youth programs.

Every great organization depends on the hard work and dedication of the people that represent it, and the Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico is not the exception. The work team that Dr. Norman has assembled provides a variety of expertise areas and together composes a happy family of people who love cars, especially Volkys.

The passion instilled by Dr. Norman is contagious and serves as motivation for all that from part of its team. From the maintenance people, to the restoration technicians, to the building administrator, security personnel, government contacts and volunteers, everyone shares the responsibility of the project and its babies, the cars.

Diana, First Lady of the Museum, handles all new vehicle purchases; collects scale model cars and memorabilia, and with Dr. Norman, spearheads the operation.

LM2Completing the pieces that compose the strength link of the Museum, is Luis Mariano Muñoz, bringing over five decades of automotive , journalistic, marketing and sales experience to the Team.  Luis Ma., as he is known to friends and associates, is the Director of Marketing of the facility and also the Editor of this website. Articles and photography that you enjoy in TheVolkyland.com are provided by him, always in a professional and explanatory fashion. Somehow, Luis Mariano finds the time to publish his own automotive website, www.autosclasicos.com , that has grown to be the "No. 1 Spanish Language Automotive Website" in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Central & South America, with a very high percentage of Spanish language readers in the United States, other European countries and of course Spain.

Dr. Norman's calm, collected and dedicated personality and work ethics provide the leadership that any successful organizations needs to achieve its climb to higher levels, whether those be short or long term.

With this Team, the future plans for the Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico will surely arrive sooner than expected.

Vision

VISION

Dr. Norman expectations are very ambitious, but judging from his own professional record, there is no doubt that his vision of the Museum will be achieved. It is his dream and vision that the Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico becomes an internationally recognized institution, receiving visitors from all over the world.

The Volkswagen enthusiasts consider the Volkswagen a culture by itself, a culture that surpasses geographical and ethnical barriers and unites men, women and children in one common interest, the VW vehicle.

Expansion projects include the creation of an Eco-Hotel in the premises and other recreational attractions that expand the interest of traveling and visiting the Museum.

Keep a close eye on Dr. Norman as he has a tremendous drive and capacity to make dreams come true. He is a dreamer with his feet solidly on the ground and on the pulse of the automotive culture.

How it began

HOW IT BEGAN

The Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico

The Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico is operated by the "Fundacion de Volkswagen de Puerto Rico", a non-profit corporation, and was established to ensure that exceptional automobiles, automotive art, technology, the car culture and history of the Volkswagen vehicles could be exhibited for the enjoyment and educational aspect to the community.

It's President, Dr. Norman González Chacon, is fulfilling his lifetime dream of gathering the most exceptional and historic Volkswagen vehicles in the world. His collection grows weekly and he considers the vehicles as not only rolling sculptures, but as a member of the family. Slowly Dr. Norman has added jewels to his collection and now the jewels reside in the perfect jewel box, the Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico.

The project has been growing daily and is already known to be the "Largest Private Volkswagen Collection in the World", with close to two hundred cars under its roof.
